We've prepared this bit of information for those who may not know about the different kinds of genres and what they mean. Here's a nice explanation of the most popular genres out there!

1. RPG

A very popular genre. RPG stands for Role-Playing Games. It's a genre in which you take on the role of a character. Like the name implies, you yourself will become the hero in the story, deciding what actions your character will take and completing given quests. You can increase your level by fighting enemies or collecting items. A progression system allows your character to become powerful. Investing points into stats that need improvement parallels our daily lives. Let's tackle today's problems head-on and level up!

2. MMORPG

MMORPG stands for Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game. It is a genre of RPG where many players can connect with one another at the same time. For example, Netmarble's Lineage 2: Revolution has a clan system where players can work together toward a common goal and share the rewards that follow. Playing together makes things more fun. You can also participate in massive clan vs. clan battle modes only possible in MMORPGs. Can't sit idly while your friend is leveling up, right? The competition to be the strongest is another fun part of MMORPGs.

3. MOBA
MOBA stands for Multiplayer Online Battle Arena, where players power up their heroes and try to destroy the enemy base. Players choose their heroes, form teams, and attack the enemy base in real-time. This genre was born from a StarCraft map called Aeon of Strife. Countries like Korea use the term AOS often to describe this genre, but it is more commonly known as MOBAs to the rest of the world. Remember that one friend from your childhood who would kick your beautiful sandcastle? You'll understand MOBAs easily if you remember that friend.

4. FPS
Ever played soldiers with your friends when you were a child? FPS stands for First Person Shooters. This genre involves shooting while looking through the eyes of your character. Because players have to view the world as the character, these games are almost always made in 3D. Players use guns and knives in combat against the opposing team.
It's a genre that can be quite immersive. There are also Third Person Shooters (TPS), where the player views the character from a different angle.

5. Sports

Even if you don't play in real life, you can still enjoy sports while gaming! This genre depicts real-world sports such as soccer, baseball, basketball, and many, many more. The line between sports and simulation can get blurry, but the sheer number of different sports in video games warrants a category of its own. Equestrian, fencing, cricket, and other sports that aren't immediately accessible can be experienced through this genre. If you need to change up your daily routine, how about a thrilling game of sports to spice it up?

6. RTS

RTS stands for Real-Time Strategy. In this genre, players control armies to engage in warfare with one another. The most famous title in this genre is StarCraft from Blizzard Entertainment. The game involves harvesting resources, constructing buildings, producing fighting forces, and engaging in warfare. Because the game runs in real-time, players must be able to think on their feet and devise strategies to exploit the enemy's weakness. We all make strategic decisions in our daily lives. Why not try your hand at strategizing how your army moves in an RTS title?
